Treasures of Indonesia's coffee

Gayo Arabica Coffee – From the Highlands of Aceh ALFAARABICA

Sourced from the lush highlands of Aceh in Northern Sumatra, Gayo Arabica Coffee is one of Indonesia's most celebrated beans. Grown in the fertile regions of Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and parts of Gayo Lues, these beans carry the unique signature of their volcanic soil and cool climate.

Renowned for their smooth yet distinctive profile, Gayo beans offer a buttery, nutty body with a balanced acidity that creates both strength and elegance in every cup. The flavor finishes clean on the palate, often leaving subtle traces of warm spices in the aroma.

A true specialty coffee, Gayo Arabica embodies the rich culture and tradition of Aceh while delivering an unforgettable taste experience for coffee lovers worldwide.

Mandheling Arabica Coffee – From the Heart of North Sumatra

Mandheling Arabica Coffee, cultivated in the fertile soils of North Sumatra, is one of Indonesia's most distinctive coffees. The region's volcanic landscape and unique microclimate give rise to exceptional varieties, primarily

Catimor and Typica.

What sets Mandheling apart is its deep, earthy complexity. Each cup reveals a smooth balance of low to medium acidity, layered with herbal undertones and woody notes that finish clean yet bold. The richness of its profile makes Mandheling a favorite among roasters and coffee lovers who appreciate a cup that is both grounding and full of character.

Kintamani Arabica Coffee – From the Highlands of Bali

Kintamani Arabica, grown in the volcanic highlands of Bali, is cherished for its bright and refreshing character. Unlike many coffees known for their bitterness, Kintamani offers a smooth, gentle body with a natural sweetness and a lively citrus-like acidity.

This unique flavor profile comes from the region's traditional farming practices. Coffee trees are cultivated alongside vegetables and orange groves, infusing the beans with subtle fruity notes. The use of Subak, Bali's ancient irrigation system, ensures that the coffee is grown in harmony with nature and often organically.

Every cup of Kintamani Arabica delivers a light yet memorable experience, making it the perfect choice for coffee lovers who enjoy a clean, vibrant, and slightly fruity finish.

Toraja Arabica Coffee – The Heritage of South Sulawesi

Grown in the highlands of Toraja, north of Makassar in South Sulawesi, Toraja Arabica Coffee is a true gem of Indonesia's coffee culture. Cultivated by smallholder farmers across the region, these beans have long been admired in Northern Europe and beyond for their distinctive character.

Toraja offers a complex and layered flavor journey. Spicy undertones—reminiscent of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves—mingle with savory notes, while its body reveals an earthy richness complemented by bursts of fruity intensity. Despite this depth, the finish remains remarkably clean and balanced, leaving a refined impression on the palate.

Toraja Arabica is more than a coffee; it is a sensory experience that reflects the traditions, climate, and artistry of the region's farmers.

Luwak Coffee – Indonesia's Most Exclusive Specialty

Luwak Coffee, one of Indonesia's most renowned specialty coffees, is produced in select regions of Sumatra including Central Aceh, Sidikalang, West Sumatra, and Lampung. What makes this coffee so extraordinary is not only its limited origin but also its unique production process.

The Asian palm civet (Luwak) plays a central role in creating this rare coffee. These animals instinctively choose only the ripest, highest-quality coffee cherries. After a natural fermentation process in the civet's digestive system—lasting 24 to 36 hours—the beans are collected, thoroughly cleaned, roasted, and ground.

The result is a coffee unlike any other: smooth, rich, and exceptionally complex, with a refined flavor that reflects both nature's selection and artisanal tradition. Its rarity and meticulous process are what make Luwak Coffee one of the most sought-after and valuable coffees in the world.

Temanggung Robusta Coffee – From Central Java

Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers of Robusta coffee, and Temanggung in Central Java stands out as one of its most distinctive origins. Grown in fertile volcanic soil and often alongside tobacco fields, Temanggung Robusta carries a character that is both bold and unique.

This coffee offers a medium acidity with a well-balanced harmony of sweetness and bitterness. Subtle hints of tobacco can be found in its flavor profile, complemented by a delightful mocha-like aroma. The result is a robust, full-bodied cup that captures the authentic essence of Central Java.

# no2 Kopi Luwak – Indonesia's Most Exclusive Coffee

Kopi Luwak is renowned worldwide as one of the rarest and most expensive coffees. Its exclusivity comes from a unique natural process involving the Asian palm civet—known locally as Luwak. The word "Kopi" means coffee in Indonesian, and "Luwak" refers to this small wild animal.

A Unique Natural Process

In the Indonesian archipelago, free-living civets selectively eat only the ripest coffee cherries. As the beans pass through their digestive system, natural enzymes transform their chemical composition. Once excreted, coffee growers carefully collect, wash, and sun-dry these beans.

This unusual fermentation process produces a coffee unlike any other:

  • Aroma: Intensely rich and distinctive

  • Taste: Smooth, full-bodied, and free from bitterness

  • Aftertaste: Clean, aromatic, and long-lasting

Cultural Significance

Coffee cultivation in Indonesia dates back to the 17th century with the arrival of Arabica on Java, followed later by Robusta. Kopi Luwak, however, emerged in the 19th century when farmers in Central Java discovered this natural fermentation process through wild civets on their plantations. Since then, it has become a symbol of Indonesian coffee heritage and craftsmanship.
